Referenced!

As a scientist, you know when someone has read and referenced your publications because they list them at the back of the paper. Writing for popular publications, it isn’t so clear. So I was incredibly happy to see this in the article “Mug Up, 46-foot Bowman Yawl” in the current issue of Good Old Boat. The article details the boatyard rescue and rehab of the yacht Mug Up. Mug Up’s new home port is Gloucester, MA, so it hits close to home, since I’m (Anne) from Massachusetts. Anyway, here’s the text that got me so excited:

“I had the topsides all finished, sanded and prepped, waiting for paint, when the contractor who agreed to do the Awlgrip part of the job backed out.” … “I was then faced with the prospect of finding someone else to do the painting or do it myself. I remembered seeing an article in Good Old Boat about painting the topsides with a roller and, after rereading it, I thought, why not give it a try?”

That’s my article (Hull Envy, Good Old Boat issues 93 and 94) he’s talking about! It’s nice to know that it’s helping people take that step in doing their own painting. Happy dance!

Sci Fi Exhibit in DC

It was rather apropos that during this, our con season, the Museum of American History was hosting the exhibit Fantastic Worlds: Science and Fiction 1780-1910. This period was rich in scientific advancement and discovery, inspiring writers to twist the new knowledge into fascinating fiction. For example, the emerging sciences of chemistry and electricity inspired Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The exhibit discussed the influence of exploration on land and sea, of geology and fossils, astronomy, aeronautics, industrial mechanization, and more, on people’s imaginations. If you have a chance, check out this terrific exhibit.

Weapon of Fear Is Out!

We've been working on this book non-stop for the last few weeks, and it's finally out. We got such good reviews on our Weapon of Flesh trilogy, we've continued the series, this time from Mya's point of view. Mya started out as a minor secondary character in the original Weapon of Flesh book, and quickly worked her way into a major story element. Well, now she's got her own trilogy - Weapon of Flesh Trilogy II! How do you like that great new cover from our most-fabulous cover artist, Noah Stacey? And look at my name up there!

Chris’ New Release: Blood & Iron from Privateer Press

New release, new publisher. It was so cool last year when, at Gen Con, Chris was approached by the fiction editor at Privateer Press to write in their Iron Kingdom’s world. Uh…yes! The novella Blood & Iron relates the exploits of Phinneus Shae, war caster gone rogue, wreaking mayhem and running from the Mercarian league aboard the pirate ship Talion. Unfortunately, the infamous bounty hunter Ghostmaker has got Phinneus in her sights… Check it out! It’s already gotten some rave reviews.

Happy New Year! Let’s Celebrate a Great Cover for Weapon of Vengeance

We know we’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again: We love Noah Stacey, our book cover artist. Though Weapon of Vengeance, Book 3 of our Weapon of Flesh trilogy, won’t be out for a few more months, we just had to give you a sneak peek of the cover. The Weapon covers have provoked strong and conflicting emotions in viewers. At conventions, people have done almost comical double-takes, come over to the table to get a better look, and end up buying the book. Just what a good cover is supposed to do! Alternatively, on the UK Amazon site, one of the reviewers said something like “Don’t be put off by the cover, because the book is great.” To each his own. We love the covers, and we hope you do, too. Enjoy!
